Burned Body Found In Eastside Garage
DETROIT (WWJ) - Was a fire at an eastside Detroit home deliberately set to cover up a second crime? Detroit Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a burning garage early Monday morning.
Firefighters who were called to the home on Barlow Street near Groesbeck and Eight Mile found the body.
WWJ City Beat reporter Vickie Thomas saw blood at the scene and said, according to reports, the man may have been shot.
The body was burned beyond recognition, but he's thought to be between 18 and 22 years old.
Police returned to the home after residents said they thought the saw charred human remains left in the garage.
"I've seen stuff like that. I'm a veteran, I'm an Army veteran, but that doesn't make sense for them to leave his torso in there like that, even after its burned ... anybody's torso, no matter who it is," said neighbor Sam Lewis.
Thomas spoke with an officer at the scene.
"There was a body burned there, that's it. That's all we know. The family, they're not sure where their missing person is; their loved one, we don't know. But there was a dog in there, also that was burned... those are dog remains. There's no doubt about that," he said.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner is working to determine how the man died.
