Building Trades Support Bernero
As the construction industry continues to lose more jobs, could the November election be the key to turning things around?
The Michigan Building Trades Council supported House Speaker Andy Dillon in last week's primary election.
Now, the union will help Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero in his bid to become Michigan's next governor.
Patrick Devlin, Secretary-Treasurer of the council, told WWJ that the industry is at about a 50% unemployment rate.
"I represent over 120,000 members in the construction industry," said Patrick Devlin. "So that's what we want to focus on."
Devlin said the union will help gubernatorial candidate Bernero to push his message during the campaign.
"It's what Virg is bringing to the table--to put our people back to work," said Devlin.
Bernero will face Republican Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder in the November election.
