Build Connections At Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent conference time is coming up at school, and it is an important opportunity to make some connections with your child's teacher.

Particularly if you are seeing homework at home that is baffling you, or see routines that the teacher does that mystify you, make sure these make it to the conference agenda. Bring some student work, or ask to see some recent assignments to talk about together, and try to focus on the student's learning, rather than the differences between the adults involved.

If you still have questions, a principal or other administrator might be able to help resolve the impasse. A discussion that is respectful on both sides can often lead to avoiding the buildup of frustration, or unnecessarily moving a child from school to school.
