Bruce And Baseball Is An Odd Mix
By: Mike Stone
As a huge Bruce Springsteen fan I was taken aback when I learned that TBS is using Springsteen's "Land Of Hopes And Dreams" as the theme of their playoff coverage this October. I love baseball and I obviously have an unnatural affection for Springsteen's music, but I do not think this is a wise choice by TBS.
I understand the title choice of "Land Of Hopes And Dreams"; it is obviously the hope and dream to win the World Series. I just think by using a song that most of America never heard of by a 63 year old is a horrible idea. Baseball's problem is that the majority of its fans skew older. The sport needs to appear hipper to a younger audience and Bruce is not that. Take a look at the long form video here, a shorter version will be shown throughout the playoffs.
