British TV Show Filming In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Motor City serves as center stage Tuesday when a British production company films an episode of their popular series "Extreme Fishing with Robson Green" along the Rouge River.

Filming will take place against the dramatic industrial backdrop of Zug Island, with its iron-making blast furnaces, conveyors, and mounds of coal, coke and ore.

"Extreme Fishing" follows actor Robson Green as he travels the globe in search of the most exotic fishing spots, the most unusual fish and the most interesting local fishermen.

In each episode, Green pits himself in a fishing competition against a local fisherman and they compete for the biggest fish, the most fish or the greatest variety of fish. Green uses gear and bait provided by the local fisherman, so there's no unfair advantage.

The local fisherman featured in the "Urban Fishing" competition is 38-year-old Danny Newsome of Delray, who grew up swimming and fishing in the Rouge despite its then-polluted status.

The competition will take place along the Old Channel as the fishermen drift by boat trying to catch a wide variety of fish, including Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Rock Bass, Silver Bass, Drum, Perch, Muskie, Pike and Sturgeon.

Filming will take place beginning at 6:00 am at Delray Public Boat Launch and wrap up around 12:30 pm at Marine Pollution Control.
