British Open-Tiger's Elbow [Blog]

The Open Championship is being contested at Muirfield- the site of Tiger Woods worst score as a professional in 2002. Woods also is coming off his worst two tournament stretch of his career (plus 21). He has failed to break 70 on the weekend of The Open Championship since 2007. And he hasn't played competitive golf in a month due to an elbow injury.

Yet the course at Muirfield will play far easier than it did in 2002. It is dry as a bone. That means the shorter hitters are at no disadvantage (most of the field will be hitting irons off the tees).

It also means hitting out of the heather will not be nearly as much of a problem- there will be good lies in the deep rough. Add to that the relatively wide open fairways with minimal winds in the forecast, and you could have the lowest scoring Open Championship in years.

The only defense the course has are those pesky pot bunkers. But even those are quite visible from the tee, as opposed to hidden on many other links designs.

In short, almost anyone can win. Expect a winning score at least 12 under par- with Jason Day the pick here.
