Bridge President: Our Work Will Be Completed By 2012 Deadline
DETROIT (WWJ) - If you drive the Ambassador Bridge... some good news may be heading your way.
The Gateway Project may be complete early next year. Detroit International Bridge Company President Dan Stamper tells WWJ that they will complete their work by then... but he says M-DOT needs to re-open freeway ramps in the area.
Stamper says they've had a lot of cooperation from M-DOT, that is until the state began advocating for a second bridge to be built between Detroit and Windsor.
Stamper urges M-DOT to open the freeway ramps that have been completed so that trucks don't have to drive through the community.
"There is no exit off the freeway to get directly to the Ambassador Bridge to go to Canada, the ramps from eastbound I-96, southbound I-75, and northbound I-75 have been completed since May 2009, in fact as taxpayers we all paid a bonus to get them completed early," said Stamper.
"We're getting ready to relocate the toll booths - that is one of the issues ...and we will be doing that portion of the work in the next couple of weeks," said Stamper.
Currently there is a court order in effect to complete the construction by January 2012.
