Boy's Lemonade Stand Raises Money For Children's Cancer

BERKLEY (WWJ) - Noah Kolar is just 5-years-old, but he clearly has a bright future in business, or perhaps non-profit work. His sister, Lauren, just celebrated being cancer-free less than a year ago, and Noah is already on a mission to help other kids going through the same battle as Lauren. Noah is planning a lemonade stand, donating all funds raised to the Southeast Michigan CureSearch Walk.

"I want to raise money so that doctors can get smarter so more kids can be cured," said Noah.

"Big Brother Noah's Lemonade Stand" has turned into a huge event, taking place during Berkley's CruiseFest, an event that draws hundreds of classic cars and thousands of people. Noah and his crew have been given a space at the Marathon gas station right on the route (3427 12 Mile Rd.), and have even secured a donation of enough lemonade mix for 2,400 glasses from Marathon.

In addition, Noah's friends at Sunny Skies Daycare and his aunt, who happens to have been to culinary school, will be working tirelessly to bake the 5,000 cookies they hope to sell at the event.

Nora, the children's mother, said the entire premise of the fundraiser was all Noah's idea.

The CureSearch Walk supports the work of the Children's Oncology Group (COG), the network of over 200 hospitals nationwide that treat 90 percent of children diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Five Southeast Michigan Hospitals are COG members, including Children's Hospital of Michigan, St. John, CS Mott Children's Hospital at the University of Michigan, Hurley Medical Center and William Beaumont Hospital, where Lauren was treated and cured.

If you would like to support Noah's efforts, visit him at the Berkley Marathon from 5 to 10 pm on August 19th, or make a contribution to his efforts online by visiting www.curesearchwalk.org/southeastmi and donating to participant Noah Kolar.
