Boy Missing Body Parts After Fatal Dog Mauling
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A medical examiner says a 5-year-old downriver boy was missing body parts after he was mauled to death last year by a wolf-dog hybrid.
Police said the physically disabled child, Kyle Holland, was attacked by the man's pet wolf-dog hybrid, in July of 2010, while he slept.
In a Lincoln Park courtroom Friday, Wayne County medical examiner Carl Schmidt testified that part of one of the boy's thigh bones and much of the soft tissue on the thigh were missing at the time of his autopsy.
His chest cavity also was crushed and the boy had more than 80 puncture wounds.
The testimony came during the preliminary examination for the boy's mother, 29-year-old Debbralyn Holland, and 35-year-old Earl Adkins, both charged with the child's death.
Holland is charged with involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse.
Adkins is charged with dangerous animal death, but his attorney, Daniel Blank, has said there is no proof that his client's pet was a wolf-hybrid.
The pair, who lived together at the time of the attack, also face separate charges in connection with more than a dozen marijuana plants that police said were being grown in Adkins' basement.
