Boston Marathon Memorial Run Held In West Michigan
PORTAGE, Mich. (AP) — Several hundred runners in southwestern Michigan have held a memorial event to promote unity following the Boston Marathon bombing.
WWMT-TV says the run was held Tuesday evening in the Kalamazoo suburb of Portage.
Brett Beier tells MLive.com that he posted the idea for the memorial run on the Kalamazoo Area Runners' Facebook page Monday evening and got strong response.
He says he wanted everyone to run the first half-mile together in honor of all the runners who weren't able to run the last half-mile of the marathon following Monday's attack.
Also Tuesday night, students were planning a candlelight vigil at the University of Michigan-Flint campus.
