Bond Set At $1 Million In Case Of Impregnated Girl
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - A 28-year-old Macomb County man is being held on a $1 million bond on charges that he sexually assaulted and impregnated a girlfriend's 11-year-old daughter.
Trevaun Brooks pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree and second-degree criminal sexual conduct at his arraignment in Mount Clemens District Court.
Tuesday, 41B District Court Judge David Goulette made the ruling despite the argument from Brooks' attorney, Christopher Aiello, who said his client should be allowed to go free.
"He's not a flight risk. He's lived his entire life in the state of Michigan, the counties of Macomb and Wayne, his entire life. He's employed in Macomb County. He's not a flight risk," said Aiello.
Judge Goulette, however, said Brooks had a chance to turn himself in weeks ago and failed to do so. He said, given the charges against him, Brooks might be in danger himself on the streets.
WWJ asked Brooks' attorney Chris Aiello if he thought that this was true. "No, I don't think so, but one has to be cautious about things like this," said Aiello.
Brooks was arrested Monday evening at the Warren home of another girlfriend.
The girl is now 12 and gave birth Aug. 9. She and the newborn are in the care of state Child Protective Services. She originally told police the baby's father was a 15-year-old acquaintance.
If convicted, Brooks could face up to life in prison. A preliminary examination is set for Sept. 19.
