Bond Set At $150K In Trayvon Martin Murder Case
SANFORD, Fla. (WWJ/AP) - A judge set a bond of $150,000 for George Zimmerman, the Florida neighborhood watch volunteer who fatally shot an unarmed black teen, setting the stage for his release from jail.
Zimmerman, 28, also took the witness stand during a trial Friday and apologized to the family of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, saying, "I am sorry for the loss of your son."
The judge did say, however, that Zimmerman was unlikely to be released from Sanford, Fla. jail Friday.
Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder. He claims self-defense.
WWJ legal analyst and Talk Radio 1270 host Charlie Langton thinks it was a mistake for Zimmerman to speak in court, adding he would never let a client make a statement like that because it opens the door to too many questions.
