Bond Remains At $1Million For Teens In Child's Shooting
DETROIT (WWJ) - Two teens accused of shooting a 6-year-old boy during a carjacking spree in Detroit make a brief appearance in court on Thursday.
A 36th District Court judge denied a request to lower bond the $1 million cash bond set for Devin Campbell and Leontay Welch. Both are charged with carjacking, assault with intent to murder and conspiracy.
Investigators say the 15-year-olds shot the boy as they attempted to steal a car on Balfour Street. It allegedly was their fourth carjacking of the night.
The child, who was shot several times in the leg and lower back, is still recovering.
The teens are expected back in court next week to learn if they will stand trial. If the case moves ahead, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has said they will be tried as adults.
The Feb. 26 incident marked the third shooting of a youngster in the city in less than a month.
