Bomb Scare Temporarily Shuts Down Circuit Court In Mt. Clemens
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - The Macomb County Circuit Court building was evacuated Monday morning due to a bomb threat.
Sheriff's officials were notified shortly before 9:30 a.m. that threatening calls had come in claiming there was a bomb in the building, located at 40 N. Main Street in downtown Mt. Clemens.
Authorities rushed to the scene, and the building was evacuated as a precaution.
"Apparently there was some call that came in that indicated there was a bomb that would go off at a designated time," said Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel. "So they wanted to make sure the employees were safe."
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said K-9 teams performed a floor-by-floor search of the building and the surrounding area. Nothing was found.
The K-9 search was completed before noon and the building was set to reopen to the public at 2:15 p.m. Those who had business at the courthouse were advised that anything set for before that time would be rescheduled.
Wickersham said investigation is ongoing. "Our detectives are following up on phone records (to find out) who may have placed this call," he said.
The Macomb County Sheriff's K-9s were assisted by Oakland County Sheriff's Office and the Michigan State Police.
No one was hurt.
