Body Of Woman Slain In 1989 To Be Reburied
NEWAYGO (WWJ/AP) - The body of a woman found murdered in 1989 in West Michigan will be reburied Monday following a months-long examination in the unsolved case.
The reburial is planned Monday afternoon at the grave of Shannon Siders in Newaygo City Cemetery, 35 miles north of Grand Rapids, The Muskegon Chronicle reported.
Bob Siders says it marks "another step" in the investigation into his daughter's slaying.
Shannon Siders, who was 18 at the time, was last seen alive July 18, 1989. Her decomposed body was found Oct. 15, 1989, in the Manistee National Forest in Newaygo County's Brooks Township. A task force was set up in 2011 to look into the case and her body was exhumed in July.
"I've known since day one we might have had to exhume her and we felt there might be something there that would lead to a conclusion. We were OK with it," said Bob Siders, adding that it "was worthwhile" no matter what comes out of the process.
It wasn't immediately clear what type of evidence, if any, was discovered during an examination to help authorities solve her homicide.
Monday is the 23rd anniversary of the discovery of her body.
