Body Found By Fishermen In The Detroit River
DETROIT (WWJ) - A body was pulled from the Detroit River Tuesday afternoon, but officials haven't released details about the identity of that person.
WWJ's Lance Howard in Chopper 950 reported earlier that a body has been found by two fishermen in the Detroit River.
Howard said that authorities moved to an area west of the Ambassador Bridge, downstream from the Boblo boat docks on the United States side.
"Looks like two unfortunate fisherman have found a body in the Detroit River, this is downstream from the Ambassador Bridge, a little downstream from the Boblo docks. State Police helicopter has been over the scene already. The fishermen are hanging on to the body with a rope it appears'" said Howard.
This is the same area where the Coast Guard was searching two months ago for a painter that fell off the Ambassador Bridge in January.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with Coast Guard Lt. Jeston Westmiller about the investigation:
"The Coast Guard received a report that there was a body in the river, we contacted the Detroit police department harbor master unit, and both our station and Belle Isle and the Detroit police department responded," said Westmiller.
