Lincoln Park Pawn Shop Owner Found Shot To Death Inside Business

LINCOLN PARK (WWJ) - Authorities are investigating an apparent homicide after the owner of a popular Downriver pawn shop was found dead inside his business.

The body of 29-year-old Mouhammad Hassan was discovered around 8 p.m. Tuesday at Platinum Pawn Shop on Dix Highway and Hanford Avenue, in a neighborhood near Southfield Road and I-75 in Lincoln Park.

Authorities tell WWJ that Hassan, of Dearborn, was shot multiple times and declared dead at the scene.

Hassan's family reportedly went looking for him at the pawn shop after he failed to show up for dinner, and found his body. They say he's a married father of a 2-year-old son, with another baby on the way.

Reporting live from the scene Wednesday morning, WWJ's Mike Campbell said police took several bags of evidence from the shop. Peering through the front window, items in the store are askew -- a sign that a struggle might have taken place.

Information on the suspect was not immediately released and no arrests have been made. Police have not yet discussed a possible motive.

Jeff Abdul works across the street from the pawn shop. He said he never noticed anything out of the ordinary.

"He seemed like a real nice guy. I don't know a whole lot about him, you know, I never really went into the pawn shop but people would go in and out. Just regular traffic for a pawn shop," he said.

Abdul said Hassan ran the shop with his brother. The siblings own another pawn shop nearby on Northline Road.

Michigan State Police are assisting Lincoln Park police in the investigation, which is ongoing.
