Bobb Points To School Protestors As Factor In Shooting

DETROIT (WWJ) - The district's financial manager Robert Bobb is upset with the organizers of the protest held to draw attention to Governor Snyder's proposed budget cuts.

"Those students went from one school to another, and as a result we had a student who was shot. The student, John Anthony Mack was not shot on campus but away, several blocks from Kettering," says Bobb. "When we have all types of academic challenges within the DPS and it is very irresponsible when at the end of the day, we have a child, who was unfortunately shot, the good news, of course, is the fact that it was not fatal."

The victim, who was a 10th grader at Southeastern High, was hit in the backside. The student was with a group of friends when they were approached by another group and shots were fired.

He was shot after a group of Southeastern students protested against cuts to the school's fine arts program by walking out of school.

The student, identified by Bobb as 16-year-old John Mack is expected to be okay. The shooting is still under investigation.
