Bob Bashara Pleads Guilty To Solicitation Of Murder
DETROIT (WWJ) - Bob Bashara has pleaded guilty to solicitation of murder for trying to hire a hitman to kill Joseph Gentz, the man accused of killing Bashara's wife.
During a short hearing Thursday in Wayne County Circuit Court, Bashara read a statement admitting that in June of this year he "foolishly and regrettably" offered to pay a man to find someone to kill Gentz.
WWJ Legal Analyst and Talk Radio 1270 host Charlie Langton said, in a plea deal, Bashara's attorney and the prosecutor's office agreed to seek a lighter prison sentence. He is facing between four and seven years in prison.
Sentencing is set for Nov. 20.
The body of Jane Bashara, a 56-year-old mother of two, was found in the back of her Mercedes-Benz SUV in a Detroit alley on Jan. 25.
Gentz, who worked as a handyman for Bob Bashara, has been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy charges. Bob Bashara has been called a suspect in his wife's death but has not been charged in that case.
