Bob Bashara Gets New Digs, Moves To Prison In Manistee
MANISTEE (WWJ/AP) - Bob Bashara, the businessman convicted of plotting to kill a handyman charged with his wife's slaying, has been moved to a different prison.
The 55-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man had been at the state prison in Jackson, but is now at the Oaks Correctional Facility in Manistee, about 50 miles southwest of Traverse City.
Bashara is serving six to 20 years after pleading guilty for his role in a murder-for-hire plot against Joseph Gentz.
Gentz pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder in the strangulation of Jane Bashara. He returns to court to be sentenced Jan. 29.
The body of Jane Bashara, a 56-year-old mother of two, was found in the back of her Mercedes-Benz SUV parked in an alley at Pinewood and Annott in Detroit on Jan. 25, 2012. Her husband reported her missing the night before. An autopsy showed that she was strangled to death, had extensive bruising to her upper body, a crushed windpipe and missing fingernails.
After Jane Bashara was found, Gentz reportedly told Grosse Pointe Park investigators that he was hired to kill her and paid by her husband, Bob Bashara, for whom he previously as a handyman.
Bob Bashara continues to deny he played any role in his wife's death.
