Bob Bashara Due In Court On Murder Solicitation Charge
DETROIT (WWJ) - Bob Bashara -- who's facing a charge of solicitation of murder after allegedly trying to hire a hitman to kill Joseph Gentz, the man charged in the murder of Bashara's wife -- will be in court Tuesday for a preliminary examination.
Gentz is facing murder and conspiracy charges, after reportedly telling police he was hired by Bob Bashara to kill Jane Bashara, whose body was found in her Mercedes-Benz SUV parked in an alley at Pinewood and Annott in Detroit on Jan. 25.
While Bob Bashara isn't charged with his wife's murder, he is charged with trying to hire a hitman to kill Gentz in jail.
WWJ Legal Analyst and Talk Radio 1270 morning show host Charlie Langton said evidence against Bob Bashara, including potential video that may have captured him ordering the hit, should be displayed at trial Tuesday.
"The one mystery in the case right now is who did Bob Bashara actually hire to kill Joe Gentz, the hitman? Who is the hitman that was going to kill the hitman? That's what we want to know and we want to hear that on tape or see that person in the courtroom and I expect that's what we're going to get here today," said Langton.
Meantime, there are reports ahead of the hearing that Bob Bashara has hired a new attorney, Mark Kriger, to replace David Griem.
Griem had filed an emergency motion to be removed from defending Bob Bashara, citing a "breakdown" with his client. A judge denied Griem's request, however, saying a change in representation would unnecessarily delay the case.
"Your attorney has to be your best friend and often your attorney is the only one who believes in you. If there's tension between Bashara and Griem, Griem's got to go, but Bashara is going to have to get another attorney because the process has to move forward. If Bob Bashara is confident and comfortable with his new attorney, that's great, that's the way the process is supposed to happen," said Langton.
