Bob Bashara Arraigned In Wife's Strangulation Death
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Grosse Pointe Park man accused of arranging his wife's murder has been arraigned on first-degree murder and other charges.
Detroit District Court Magistrate Laura Echartea on Wednesday set Bob Bashara's preliminary examination for Tuesday.
Jane Bashara's body was found in her Mercedes-Benz, which was left in a Detroit alley in January 2012, a few miles from the couple's home.
Handyman Joseph Gentz has pleaded guilty to strangling her, saying he did so under orders from her husband, who paid him for the task. In a deal with prosecutors, Gentz offered his testimony in any upcoming trial related to this case.
Bob Bashara told the judge he's trying to raise money to hire a lawyer in his murder case.
Bob Bashara is currently serving up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to trying to hire someone to kill Gentz while the handyman was in the Wayne County jail.
Gentz was sentenced to sentenced to a minimum of 17 years last February.
The case has drawn national attention with tales that Bashara secretly ran a sex dungeon in the basement of one of his businesses and was known in chat rooms and at S&M parties as "Master Bob. "
The Basharas have two grown children.
