Bloomfield Hills Attorney Shot By Man Claiming To Be Cop: Was It Revenge?
BLOOMFIELD HILLS (WWJ) - A Bloomfield Hills attorney was shot multiple times by someone impersonating a cop and now, investigators are wondering if the shooting is related to a legal case he was handling.
David Zacks, 57, called 911 just before midnight Wednesday after the shooting at his home in the 200 block of Woodwind, near Lahser and Square Lake Road.
The suspect allegedly knocked on Zacks' door, identified himself as a police officer and asked to come in. When Zacks refused to let the man in and threatened to call police, the suspect fired shots through the front door, striking Zacks several times.
Zacks was rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and is currently in stable condition.
Police Chief David Hendrickson told WWJ's Charlie Langton that investigators believe the gunman specifically targeted Zacks, who specializes in white-collar criminal cases.
"Unfortunately, we don't believe it's a random act, so we hope our residents feel a little safer about that," Hendrickson said, declining to elaborate. "We're looking into every aspect of his life and the people that surround his life... As part of our investigation, we have to look at every aspect and that takes time. We're working around the clock, we're going to leave no stone unturned and we're going to figure this out."
Witnesses told police the suspect fled in a dark-colored vehicle, but weren't able to provide the gunman's description. Police have not yet been able to identify a person of interest in the case.
