Block Party Planned Ahead Of NHL's Winter Classic
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — A New Year's Eve block party is planned in downtown Ann Arbor ahead of the NHL's Winter Classic.
The Ann Arbor News reports City Council voted Monday to approve street closings for the event called "The Puck Drops Here."
The event is expected to include live music and a midnight "puck drop." Design and fabrication studio METAL LLC is creating a puck lit with more than 6,000 LED lights for the event. The Ann Arbor Convention and Visitor's Bureau is the block party's primary sponsor.
The NHL's Winter Classic on Jan. 1 features the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium, the home of University of Michigan football. An alumni doubleheader is Dec. 31 at Comerica Park in Detroit, the home of baseball's Tigers.
