Blizzard Warning For Southeast Michigan
DETROIT (WWJ) - The snow is coming down in Southeast Michigan -- and it will keep coming through Wednesday morning. Accuweather's Dave Bowers says weather conditions will "rapidly deteriorate this evening" as monster storm that's been blowing across the nation bears down on Metro Detroit.
A Blizzard Warning is in effect for Lenawee Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties from 7 p.m. Tuesday through 7 p.m. Wednesday.
A possible 12 inches of snow is expected in Southeast Michigan. The heaviest snow and strongest wind gusts are expected to come through between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday. Bowers says the storm will taper off to flurries by Wednesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy snow accumulations on roads and high winds may severely affect travel Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, and may make it extremely dangerous to attempt.
Forecasters say visibilities may be reduced to one mile or less in snow and blowing snow and heavy snow on trees and power-lines may cause power outages.
Quickly accumulating snow and drifting snow will make roads very hard to clear. Untreated roads will become slippery, snowpacked and dangerous.
Wind chills are expected to fall to between 0 and -5 Tuesday night.
Several Southeast Michigan cities are declaring snow emergencies, meaning people have to keep their cars and trucks off city streets. CLICK HERE for a complete list.
