Blackout Not Enough To Stop High School Players
TEMPERANCE WWJ) - As they say, the show must go on! In Monroe County, Bedford High School's opening night performance of Beauty and the Beast will continue as planned, despite a power outage at the school this week.
Choral director Mark Smith tells WWJ Newsradio 950 that he and his 60 or so student actors and crew found out about last weekend's snow storm the hard way.
"Sunday night we came up here, we started our rehearsal -- with lights and sound and microphones and everything--and halfway through Act 2, everything blew, no power at all," he said.
But after finding temporary rehearsal refuge in a nearby school, Smith says his supporting cast of parents came through.
"And we got some generators up at the school. We flooded our dressing rooms, our green room, our hallway, and of course our auditorium with lights, as well as our orchestra. We have keyboards and bass amps and things like that we needed. So we started the run," he said.
"This is production week and this is a very stressful week for the actors, as well as our tech crew and directors, because everything needs to come together," Smith said.
