Black Ice Coats Flint-Area Freeways
FLINT (WWJ) - For those hitting the road in the Flint and tri-cities area, beware of black ice Wednesday morning.
Forecasters say temperatures have fallen below the freezing mark near Saginaw, Bay City, Midland and Flint -- allowing black ice to form on roads.
Several Traffic Tipsters called WWJ Newsradio 950 reporting a cluster of accidents along I-475, likely caused by the black ice.
Truck driver Bruce Fisher called the Newsroom on his way to Chicago.
"Southbound I-75 approaching Mt. Holly, in the past two hours I have seen a total of 19 different cars wrecked due to black ice, with I-475 from the north end to the south end being the worst," Fisher said.
Bridges and overpasses especially are prone to the ice.
