Bing To Move Into Manoogian Mansion

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and his wife, Yvette, are moving into the Manoogian Mansion after all.

The Detroit Free Press reports the Bings are expected to relocate from a rented condo to the 82-year-old mayoral mansion early next week.

Bing made a campaign promise that he would not live in the Manoogian, which costs tens of thousands of dollars a year in upkeep and has been undergoing renovations since May.

But on Thursday, the mayor said he was persuaded to move by city residents.

Plus, he says, it makes financial sense.

It costs him to rent the condo, and he's not taking a salary. Bing says he shouldn't have to ``pay to be mayor.''

The mansion has been vacant since disgraced Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his family moved out nearly two years ago.
