Bill Seeks To Ban Prisoner Access To Pornography
LANSING (AP) - A West Michigan lawmaker says she wants to ban porn in Michigan prisons.
On Thursday, Republican Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker of Van Buren County's Antwerp Township introduced Senate Bill 627, which would prohibit Michigan prison inmates from receiving or possessing sexually explicit materials.
The bill has been referred to the Judiciary Committee. It would ban materials that show or describe sexual organs and sexual acts.
The Corrections Department already has a policy banning prisoner possession of mail describing or depicting certain sexual acts and materials involving children. Some nude photographs also are prohibited.
