Bill Clinton Marches In Detroit Labor Day Parade [VIDEO]
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) -- Former President Bill Clinton made his way through Detroit on Monday morning as a part of the city's annual Labor Day parade.
The president was campaigning for his wife, Hillary, and spoke briefly with reporters after he made his way through a crowded Corktown.
He said that when the country last adopted Republican policies that cut taxes on the rich and raised the debt, "it didn't work out too well for us."
Bill Clinton says his wife's economic plan would create 10.5 million jobs while Trump's would cut 3.5 million jobs. He is urging union members to support Hillary Clinton "because she has the best ideas."
He questions Trump's leadership and says his visit last week to Mexico "damaged America in every serious country in the world." He says Trump played nice only to return home "to dump on them" for his own political benefit.
Both Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton will also be in the battleground state of Ohio on Monday. Bill Clinton will appear in Cincinnati after his visit in Detroit and Hillary Clinton will be in Cleveland to meet with union leaders and workers at a Labor Day festival.
"Labor Day honors the American labor movement," says Ron Bieber, President of the Michigan AFL-CIO, "and the contributions that working people made to the prosperity, strength and well-being of our country."
The parade kicked of at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Michigan Avenue and Trumbull in Downtown Detroit.
