Bill Clinton In Michigan Sunday
Former President Bill Clinton will campaign Sunday in Detroit, Ann Arbor and Battle Creek with several Democratic candidates. Clinton will begin his Michigan swing with an early afternoon event with gubernatorial candidate Virg Bernero Detroit's Renaissance High School.
After that. he'll head to Ann Arbor for 2 p.m. rally with Congressman John Dingell at Rackham Auditorium on the University of Michigan campus.
The former president will wrap up the day with an evening rally with 7th District Rep. Mark Schauer at Kellogg Community College's Miller Gymnasium.
The events are free and open to the public, but tickets are required to attend the congressional events.
Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports that it's a time-sensitive visit. "Let's be clear here — Bill Clinton isn't coming to Detroit and Michigan because he's got nothing better to do. He's coming here to gin up the base of the Democratic party," Skubick said.
"Lethargy has set in – particularly, we are told, among Detroit voters. And, Mr. Clinton, who is very popular with Detroit voters, is coming in to help [gubernatorial candidate] Virg Bernero; Gary Peters, the congressperson from Oakland County; and Mark Shower, who's in a very, very close race in the mid-Michigan area," Skubick said.
The latest polls show likely voters are losing faith in the Democratic party on virtually every issue. (More on this).
