DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Vice President Joe Biden is in Metro Detroit Wednesday.
His first stop was at the Hecker-Smiley mansion on Woodward Ave. where supporters reportedly paid $2,500 to $5,000 to be part of the reception.
Outside, protesters gathered, including Wayne State University student Mike Strand.
"I think that it's important that we show that Joe Biden and President Obama aren't doing the right things for my generation," said Strand. "That's why we have so many young people out here today -- because they made promises in 2008 and they haven't lived up to them."
Biden spoke Wednesday afternoon at Detroit's Renaissance High School. Tickets have already been handed out for the event, but a note on the schools' door indicated that students would be admitted with I.D.
The Vice President also made two stops Tuesday in Minnesota, including one before a raucous crowd in downtown Minneapolis. He compared GOP critics of the Obama administration's Wall Street reforms to "squealing pigs."
Biden last visited Detroit on July 29, speaking to 2,500 delegates to the annual convention of the 1.5 million-member American Federation of Teachers.
