Beyonce's Super Bowl Halftime Performance
By: Bill McAllister
Anyone who's listened to our show for any length of time knows that I am often falsely accused of being a 'music snob'. I like to think of it more as appreciating and being informed about good music. All kidding aside, I appreciate Beyonce and her music, even have some of it on my iPod. She is beautiful and can obviously sing really well and she has a great stage presence. From the multitiude of dancers and posturing to the incredible light show and special effects, it was everything you could hope for...if that's what you're into.

I for one was not into it. Again, great singer and dancer but she did a lot of the latter and not a whole lot of the former. It felt like I was watching a Victoria's Secret Fashion Show (not that there's anything wrong with that) with Beyonce strutting across the stage and repeating lyrics over and over or yelling to the crowd to, "c'mon" or "how's everybody doing" or my favorite..."whoo", while back up singers handled the heavy load. She reunited with her former Destiny's Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams (not from Dawson's Creek) to sing two lines from "Bootylicious" and "Independant Women" and then they sang "All The Single Ladies" which is a Beyonce solo work. They were then dismissed from the stage. If anything, she should have closed her set with Destiny's Child.
Was it the worst halftime show? Not even close. You would be hard pressed to find a bigger fan of The Who than me but I thought they were horrible. The Rolling Stones, who performed here in Detroit at Ford Field for Super Bowl 40 were also less than impressive as was Madonna last year. Wow, we've had some pretty lame performances over the last few years..."Hey Beyonce, What are you doing next February?"
