The Detroit Veterans Day Parade is in its tenth year. The event has become a favorite way to commemorate and honor veterans in the area. A ceremony kicks off the 3,000 person parade. Vets march down Woodward Avenue in full regalia while waving and smiling to the crowds that line the street. The occasion is a way to get veterans and the public together and promote awareness of all that veterans sacrifice for the community.

Taking place directly after the Veteran's Parade ends is the Vets Fest. This popular event is organized by the Metro Detroit Veterans Coalition. Taking place along the riverfront park in in Hart Plaza, the gathering features music, food, and presentations. Warming tents are available to attendees throughout the duration of the event. Veterans and their families will have the opportunity to share experiences with others and will have access to special services available exclusively to veterans and their loved ones.

The Detroit Police Department's 11th Precinct will hold its 8th annual parade and luncheon to honor veterans in the community. A parade kicks off the festivities, followed by a lunch attended by over 500 veterans and their families. All branches of service are honored at this event. Guest speakers include Huel Perkins, the anchor from a local television station, who will share words with attendees. Gift bags filled with necessities will be handed out during the luncheon. The lunch will follow the parade, and takes place at the Light Guard Armory, at the center stage. Repping a vast range of musical styles, the acts are as varied as the crowd — exactly what make this spot a hit night after night.

A special run and walk will honor local veterans in Detroit. The event is coordinated to help veterans in need by gathering donations during a collection drive for the Michigan Veterans Foundation. The event will provide access to a number of services available to veterans who may be experiencing unique issues. Tim Horton's will have breakfast available for veterans, who will also receive a complimentary gym membership for the day.
