If you're bored with the normal wining and dining on Valentine's Day, try taking this class at Sur La Table (French for "on the table") at the Somerset Collection in Troy. At the end of the class, you and your significant other will be able to eat your creations. The menu includes roasted pear and arugula salad with pomegranate vinaigrette; Tuscan New York Strip steak with chocolate cabernet sauvignon sauce and tarragon roasted asparagus as the main entree; and chocolate souffle with espresso creme anglaise for dessert. The class will be taught by Jill Tucker and is also available the week before, on Thursday, February 7th, if you are unable to attend the February 14th time.

The Rugby Grille will be hosting a special menu for Valentine's Day this year. Past offerings have included seared ahi tuna, New York strip steak and lobster pappardelle, as well as Kona-crusted bone-in filet. To make the day extra special, you can book a package at the Townsend and stay overnight as well. The Townsend is located in downtown Birmingham, and there's street and garage parking nearby.

Pacific Rim serves Pan-Asian cuisine in Ann Arbor, near the University of Michigan, and is known for its variety of menu items, as well as its reputation for fresh, delicious food. It usually features a five-course prix-fixe menu on Valentine's Day. Last year, it included delicacies such as crab and cauliflower soup, pomegranate-glazed quail, Berkshire pork tenderloin and coconut-cardamom rice pudding, among others. Street parking is available on-site and garage parking is available a few blocks away. Make your reservations as soon as possible as this is one hot spot on this holiday.

The Whitney is a 52-room mansion that was built in 1894, and now is one of Detroit's most historical restaurants. For Valentine's Day, its standard dinner menu, along with some special features, will be offered on the first floor, and a "Lover's Buffet" will be held on the second floor, for $49 per person. The third floor will serve the tableside dining menu, with cocktails available in the Ghostbar. The Ghostbar will be open for business on Valentine's Day, with its normal menu, from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. You can check out live entertainment by Joel and Adia (piano/vocals) from 9:30 p.m. to midnight. The Whitney will be reservations-only on Valentine's Day, and each reservation is for a two-hour seating. For those partaking in the buffet, there will be a champagne toast upon arrival and non-alcoholic champagne is also available. The buffet's first course includes a cup of shrimp bisque with cocktail shrimp garnish and organic green salad, with roasted tomato bisque as another option. Valet parking is offered on-site and there is also street parking nearby.

Bacco Ristorante was established in 2002, and this year it will have a special Valentine's Day menu. The menu will incorporate oysters, potatoes, tomatoes, asparagus, almonds, avocado, basil and garlic, among other ingredients, remembering that oysters are aphrodisiacs. Chocolate, figs and honey will be included in the dessert options, as well as fresh coffee from Ugly Mug in Ypsilanti. Entrees (bistecca di manzo Siciliano, cernia arrosto) are $39 and soup and appetizers range from $8 to $19. Bacco is located on Northwestern between Inkster and Franklin.

Chef John Breeland creates unique specials every day at Morels, and Valentine's Day is no exception. Michigan ingredients are present in every dish, and Morels features local beers and wines as well. The original Morels was in an office building in Bingham Farms, but later closed. This Morels is its second incarnation, and is in a freestanding building located on Northwestern Highway between 14 Mile and Middlebelt. Morels is also a Matt Prentice restaurant, and its sister restaurant, Detroit Prime (also owned by Prentice), resides next door.
