The Bistro at Macy's Somerset

www.macysrestaurants.com/bistro

The Bistro is best known for its Maurice salad, which has been a staple ever since Macy's was Hudson's back in the day, but it offers a few salads that sound great to enjoy on a warmer spring day. The Michigan chop salad includes romaine, turkey, garbanzo beans, dried cherries, applewood-smoked bacon and more, and is topped with a cherry white balsamic vinaigrette. If you're in the mood for something more fruity, try the Mandarin chicken salad, which includes marinated chicken breast, mandarin oranges, red peppers, almonds and crispy wontons, among other ingredients. Treat yourself to a Sanders hot fudge cream puff or the Bistro's house-made white chocolate bread pudding. The Bistro can be found on the 3rd floor of Macy's, near the cafe area and linens department.

Hogan's Restaurant is located at the corner of Maple and Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Hills, and is known for its hearty meat dishes; however, it also has excellent salads. If you're in the mood for something savory, try the Traverse City chicken salad: raspberry walnut vinaigrette, diced chicken breast, Michigan sun-dried cherries, mandarin oranges and more. Another good choice is the crispy chicken and pecan salad, with many of the same ingredients as the Traverse City but also with beer-battered chicken and a sesame-seed dressing. Make sure to check out the happy hour and drink specials before going – the restaurant has different specials for each day of the week.

The restaurant is known for its crepes, sandwiches, and soups, but has an extensive salad menu as well. Try the Salade D'espinards Et Poires, which includes baby spinach, pears, blue cheese, shallots, and pine nuts, or opt for the Salade De Chevre Aux Noix, featuring rosemary olive oil drizzled over goat cheese, on a baguette crouton, with walnuts, potatoes, greens, and tomatoes. As is the European style, be prepared to spend some time here enjoying your food, and check out their menu for even more French delicacies.Related: Best Summer Salad Recipes

The Russell Street Deli, located inside Eastern Market in downtown Detroit, has to be included in this list because it has a salad called the "Spring Salad." The salad is comprised of greens, toasted pecans, gorgonzola cheese, Michigan sun-dried cherries, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers and its homemade balsamic vinaigrette dressing. You may also add chicken, bacon or avocado for an additional fee. The restaurant has seven salads in total, ranging from the cobb salad (chicken breast and sugar-cured bacon) to its chef salad (Applewood ham, turkey, imported Swiss cheese) to its house salad (Kalamata olives, imported feta, fresh veggies), and even the most discerning salad lover is sure to find something here to eat.

The Whitney

The Whitney has seen many eras of Detroit, as the mansion was built in 1894 for David Whitney Jr. The mansion is 21,000 square feet, with 52 rooms and 20 fireplaces, and cost Whitney Jr. $400,000, an extraordinary sum in the 19th century. The house has played various roles but became The Whitney restaurant in 1986 after Richard Kughn purchased the mansion in 1980; the restaurant/house was sold to Bud Liebler in 2007. The Whitney offers its apple chicken frisee salad, which includes crispy chicken breast, frisee, poppyseed vinaigrette, fresh apples, candied walnuts, pickled onions and cucumbers and is topped with cracked black pepper ($16, lunch). A Maurice salad ($15) and grilled salmon asparagus salad ($19) are also available.
