Best Shows In Detroit To See On Your Valentine's Day Date

Valentine's Day is on a Sunday this year, so there are a ton of fun events going on in Detroit. Check out this list to see where you should take your date on Valentine's Day.

If your lady or man is an orchestra fan, there's no better or more romantic place to take him or her than to the orchestra. The DSO will be performing its second night of its Brahms Festival at Orchestra Hall, at 3 p.m. on Valentine's Day. The performance will include several of Brahms' overtures, concertos and symphonies. Leonard Slatkin will be the conductor, and the concert will also feature Baiba Skride on violin and Danjulo Ishizaka on cello. Tickets range from $15 (upper balcony) to $100 (box seats) and can be bought at the Orchestra Hall box office or online at the DSO's website.

The English Neo Soul group Floetry will be performing at the Fox at 7 p.m. this Valentine's Day as part of "The Love Affair," which includes special guests. The group was formed in 1999 and consists of Natalie Stewart ("the Floacist") and Marsha Ambrosius ("the Songstress"). The group became popular in England during the late 1990s, receiving seven Grammy nominations and writing songs for Earth Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson and numerous others. Floetry performed its "Reunion Tour" in 2015, reuniting after almost nine years, and they continue to write and record new songs today. Tickets range from $49.50 to $99.50 and can be purchased at the Fox box office, on Ticketmaster or at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy (for no service fee).

Chicago The Musical will be playing at the Fisher Theatre from February 9th to 14th. There are two performances to choose from on Valentine's Day: 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $39 (balcony) and can be bought at the Fisher box office or on Ticketmaster. The musical is set in the city of Chicago in the Prohibition era. Parking is free at the Fisher, and the parking garage is attached to the building.

Music Hall will be offering a Valentine's Comedy Explosion this year on Valentine's Day. Although Music Hall is primarily known for its performing arts programming, educational programs and jazz music, this year it will be hosting a comedy club of sorts. The event will be taking place at 7 p.m. on the Hall's main stage. The show features Capone, Kenny Howell, Guy Torry and Al Johnson; tickets range from $49-$69 and are available at the Music Hall box office and on Ticketmaster, though special discounts can sometimes be found in-person at the box office.

If your valentine likes to sing or hear singers, take him or her to see Peabo Bryson at Andiamo's showroom in Warren this Valentine's Day. Peabo Bryson has been singing since the 1960s, and he is a two-time Grammy winner, known for songs such as "Feel the Fire" and "Can You Stop the Rain." He has also sang with Celine Dion and Regina Bell. Tickets are priced at $25, $65 and $75 and can be bought at the Andiamo's box office or via Ticketmaster.
