Best Places To See Live Music In Detroit
Detroit has some of the best places to experience live music, like The Fillmore, the PJ's Lager House, Emerald Ballroom, and more.
PJ's Lager House
1254 Michigan Avenue
Detroit, MI 48226

This little gem is located in Corktown just down the road from the MGM Grand. The owner, PJ, is a hands-on. You'll probably find him serving food and drinks. The place is very clean, the musical guests are solid, but fans say that the acoustics are not ideal. Visit on a weekend for the best lineup of acts. On some evenings you can see four bands for between 5 and 8 bucks. Bonus! The freshly battered onion rings are out of this world.
The Fillmore Detroit
115 Woodward Avenue
Detroit, MI 48201

The former State Theater holds about 3500 people. Pretty good acoustics and is a great place to see bands before they "hit it big". Everyone from Smashing Pumpkins to Jerry Seinfeld have played the Fillmore as their last step before the Big Stage.
Emerald Ballroom
31 North Walnut Street
Mount Clemens, MI 48043

In Mt Clemens, the EB plays host to everything from country to rock to comedy shows. The Emerald is the shining gem of downtown Mt. Clemens.
The Majestic
4120 Woodward Avenue

Located in Midtown. Shoot pool, bowl and see great "alternative" acts such as Guided by Voices, local faves The Gories and Brendan Benson...Don't expect Justin Bieber anytime soon.
Magic Bag
22920 Woodward Avenue
Ferndale, MI 48220

In Fabulous Ferndale. Besides their weekly Brew and View (figure it out, yet?) and their sometimes lame line-up of regular acts, the MB does get some damn good acts such as Blanche and Alejandro Escovedo. And it's quite simply, a great place to see live music.
