Those of us who hated this places as kids love it now that we can appreciate the value. TJ Maxx offers designer and name brand clothing, shoes, accessories and home décor at jaw-dropping discounts. It's not all last-season's stuff, either. You'll find the current trends of the season. Look for big name handbags for half-off and the cutest cashmere minus the preposterous price. There are over 900 stores nationwide and more than a dozen in Metro Detroit, but because of the location and convenience of surrounding shopping we like the Farmington Hills TJ.

Their slogan, "Never pay full price for fabulous" says it all. You'll find some of the very same styles and labels currently in high-end department stores with much lower price tags at this place that is pretty much on par with TJ Maxx. You won't pay $5 for a pair of socks here, no matter what the logo. It's also a great store for fun home décor, unique gifts and holiday decorations. There are over a dozen locations in Metro Detroit, but our pick would have to be the location in Dearborn.

If you are obsessed with shoes this is the store for you and if you honestly do need that pair of Coach sunglasses, by all means buy them here. This lesser-known gem offers a wide selection of apparel, accessories and shoes from Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com at reduced prices (most at savings of 30-70% off MSRP). you'll find an incredible selection of brand-name apparel, jewelry, accessories and shoes, plus bath and beauty products. You could still spend a pretty penny here, don't get us wrong, but you'll get it for a lot less than you'd drop for the same items elsewher

This could be the world's best department store for value. It seems like almost every item on the rack is on sale, and the price wasn't even high to begin with. If you don't mind some less swanky brand names, you can find everything from kids' clothes and shoes to jewelry to bed & bath and home decor. The juniors' section will measure up for many teen girls, too, with fun and flirty brands including Candie's, Mudd and Derek Heart. Ladies: look for affordable office-wear on your way to the fairly awesome "intimates" department. If you can get a Kohl's Charge account, you'll get even deeper discounts almost every time you shop.

Come home with some quality finds at a great price. Reinvented as an outlet mall, Great Lakes Crossing houses factory and "last call" stores for banana republic, Coach, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Neman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Polo Ralph Lauren, Lord & Taylor and more for a total of 185 stores. This mall boasts over 25 stores and restaurants that can't be found anywhere else in Michigan, including Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Disney Store Outlet, Rainforest Café, Victoria's Secret Outlet and Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill. And, with a full mile of visible center frontage from the freeway, it's is easy to get to, served by two major interchanges off I-75—Baldwin Road and Joslyn Road.
