Best Pizza In Detroit

Detroit and its surrounding areas are definitely not short on great pizza places. Check this list for an idea of where to head first to get your pizza fix.

Green Lantern Pizzeria
28960 John R Road
Madison Heights, MI 48071
(248) 541-5439
www.greenlanternlounge.com

Green Lantern is unique in that it offers deep-dish pizza in both round and square crusts, and both are equally delicious. It has two sit-down locations, in Madison Heights and Clinton Township, as well as two take-out and delivery-only locations, in Sterling Heights and Royal Oak. The Madison Heights location also offers take-out, and if you eat-in there, the location is small, so be prepared for a wait. If you order its deep-dish pizza, be prepared to eat. One or two slices will fill you up, and a round pie usually has eight. The pizzeria is also known for its subs and appetizers, such as its Lantern bread.

Shield's Pizza
1476 W. Maple Road
Troy, MI 48084
(248) 637-3131
www.shieldspizza.com

Shield's has three locations, and all are sit-down: Troy, Southfield and Macomb Township. The original Shield's opened in 1937 in downtown Detroit, at the corner of Davison and Shields Street. The restaurant is known for its "Detroit-style" deep-dish pizza, meaning the sauce is on top of the cheese, and the toppings on top of that. Shields also does a happy hour at the bar during weekdays with discounted drinks. Make sure to check out the dessert menu too, as it features Sanders cream puffs and ice cream.

Loui's Pizza
23141 Dequindre Road
Hazel Park, MI 48030
(248) 547-1711
www.louispizza.net

The interior and decor of Loui's Pizza will make you think of your local "mom and pop" Italian place - it's reminiscent of the Buca di Beppo franchise - and its pizza tastes delicious as well. This is another place to order deep dish, and you won't be disappointed if you do. Loui's also offers sandwiches, soups and Italian specialties such as ravioli, lasagna, mostaccioli and more.

Royal Oak, MI 48073
(248) 549-4002
www.pasqualesrestaurant.com

Pasquale's has been around since 1954, and it shows: its breadsticks, pizza and other entrees are homemade and always delicious. It's known for its deep-dish pizza, and you also receive warm breadsticks with your meal as well; it's worth going to Pasquale's just for these, which are buttery and soft. The restaurant also has regular-crust pizza, if deep dish isn't your thing, and Italian pastas and salads too. Make sure to sign up for its email club as you'll receive a coupon for $20 off your meal during your birthday month.

Brooklyn Pizza
111 Henrietta St.
Birmingham, MI 48009
(248) 258-6690
www.brooklynpizzaonline.com

Brooklyn Pizza is the place to go if you're looking for New York-style (thin crust) pizza. It also serves up great gelato and garlic knots, among other menu items. Stop by its Birmingham location if you're in the mood for a sit-down meal, or try its Troy location for take-out. Brooklyn Pizza was founded in 1996 by two Brooklynites, and its pizza is cooked in a wood-burning stove. The Birmingham location also has outdoor seating for the summer and early fall months.
