Best Mother-Daughter Date Ideas In Detroit
By Liz Parker
There are various activities that mothers and daughters can do together, but sometimes it's hard to carve out time, especially when children grow up and become adults. The Detroit and Metro Detroit area has lots of activities that would be interesting for a mother-daughter date, ranging from high tea to a spa day, to shopping. Check out this list of the best ideas that would make for a fun day out.
High Tea at The Whitney

There are multiple tea rooms and tea houses in the metro Detroit area, but you won't find one as iconic as The Whitney, which was built in 1894. Traditional afternoon tea can be found here for $34.95 per person, which includes scones, soup and salad, a Tea Tower (sandwiches and canapes), mini pastries, housemade truffles, and, of course, tea. Groupon recently had a deal for a Champagne Tour and High Tea, as well, if you're looking to add some champagne and a tour of The Whitney to your day.

Dearborn, MI 48124

The Glass Academy, located in Dearborn, offers a range of classes, most of which would be fun to take with your mother or daughter. Definitely book in advance, as classes tend to sell out; the Academy's schedule can be found on its website. Class options include Happy Hour, where you create your own mug or Pilsner glass; Campfire, where you can watch glass blowing for free and also sign up to make something (for a fee); Sporella Mushroom making; and more.

If your daughter isn't quite old enough to enjoy tea at The Whitney, check out this Mother Daughter Tea event, being held on Sunday, May 20, 2018, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and also 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration is required, and is $12/person for West Bloomfield residents, or $17/person for non-residents. Both mom and daughter will "explore the world of ladybugs" with a naturalist, completely a ladybug craft, and enjoy tea and refreshments. Dress in your Sunday best and also bring a tea cup - if you don't have one, they will have "loaners" available.

A fun mother-daughter idea for all ages would be to take a tour of Yates Cider Mill, which is only available mid-September through the end of October, on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tours include watching cider being pressed, as well as a short movie that shows the "behind-the-scenes operations" at the mill. The tour ends with a donut and a small apple cider jug for each person. The tours are by appointment only, and cost a minimal fee; there's also a 10-person minimum requirement, so it might be fun to go with mom friends who can also bring their daughters.
