Beezy's is located in downtown Ypsi and is known for its great coffee as well as its cafe sandwiches, soups and more. Its customers rave about its delicious, reasonably priced sandwiches and the coffee to boot, and its an individually owned restaurant (owned by Bee, hence the name) which is refreshing to see. Upon entering the restaurant, you walk to the counter to place your order, and then find a place to sit; you will then later pick up your order once your name is called. Beezy's is also very popular for breakfast and brunch, and it fills up early, so keep that in mind when you visit.

Fourteen East is located on Kirby Street on the edge of Wayne State's campus in the Park Shelton building. The cafe has a gallery, which features local artists, and is known for its specialty Chazzano coffee. In addition, it carries Faygo drinks and pastries by Madeleine's Patisserie. There's also a private meeting center for large groups. Fourteen East also carries macarons (not to be confused with macaroons), muffins and other small bites.

Great Lakes has four local locations - Detroit, Lake Orion and two Bloomfield Hills locations, one of which is connected to the Maple Theater. It offers soy and even almond milk as dairy alternatives for its coffees, and the Detroit location even has a happy hour menu, which includes snacks. It also serves local beers like Jolly Pumpkin and Bell's, as well as wine, charcuterie, cheeses and other small plates. Great Lakes is the place to go if you want a bit of class with your coffee.

Commonwealth is located in downtown Birmingham near the Uptown Palladium theater. It serves breakfast and lunch foods, some of which are made with organic and locally grown ingredients. Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There's also a 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. brunch served on weekends. All of Commonwealth's coffee beans are roasted in-house, and if you don't like coffee, it has tea and other drinks like hot chocolate, as well. Check out Commonwealth the next time you're in Birmingham to catch a movie or do some shopping.

Bean and Leaf has two locations, one in downtown Royal Oak and the other on Main Street in downtown Rochester. It offers free WiFi (and free parking in Royal Oak on Sundays) and its Royal Oak location was crowned Best Independent Coffee Shop by Hour Magazine. Bean and Leaf serves fair trade organic coffees, and it uses biodegradable coffee cups. It also has a large selection of tea if you are more of a tea drinker, and treats like lemon squares and other pastries.
