Berkley Woman In Fight For Her Life
BERKLEY (WWJ) - Imagine this: you're 29, your father is fighting cancer, then you are diagnosed with the very same disease.
It happened to Tara Kidd of Berkley last year. Her friend Lisa Evans said Kidd was undergoing surgery for colorectal cancer last summer when her father passed away.
Evans said Kidd had no health insurance when she was first diagnosed. Her medical bills are now over $60,000.
"Right now, she is very ill," Evans told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeil. "They're not very sure which way it's going to turn right now. But we still want to at least fund-raise for her and her family, as well as her husband, should he inherit that debt."
Evans said Kidd has a great spirit. "Her humor is just great. She takes life in stride and always has this great sense about her. When you walk into a room, she just lights up with her gorgeous smile ... I just love her."
The fundraiser runs from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 21 at the Big Rock Chophouse Reserve in Birmingham. It features dinner, drinks, and a silent auction with Red Wings memorabilia and other items.
Tickets are $50 in advance and can be purchased by calling Allison Bannick at (734) 476-5392 or emailing her at allisonnurse@msn.com. Donations are also being accepted.
