Beatty Doubles Up On Restitution Payment To Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The former mistress and chief of staff to ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has doubled the amount of court-ordered restitution she pays to the city.
Christine Beatty paid $1,000 Friday to April's $500 bill, according to The Detroit News. She still owes about $81,000 of the $100,000.
Meanwhile, Kilpatrick has told state corrections officials he has no money. Kilpatrick agreed to repay the city $1 million as part of a 2008 plea deal to criminal charges. Sexually explicit text messages showed he and Beatty lied during a whistleblowers' trial about their relationship.
Kilpatrick still owes more than $850,000, and his last payment was in February. He is awaiting sentencing in federal court after being found guilty in a public corruption case.
