Baseball Fans React To Cabrera's Arrest
DETROIT (WWJ) - Baseball season hasn't even begun, and Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is already making headlines. The 27-year old All-Star was arrested late Wednesday on drunken driving charges in Florida. It's the latest episode for the first baseman who has reportedly struggled with a drinking problem. Here at CBSDetroit.com, commentors have had plenty to say.
"Support him. Keep him your Tiger. I don't think he's an alcoholic. I think he has a deeper seeded issue at the core of this, maybe depression. Dombrowski doesn't help all that much either. If you knew your GM would take a bullet for you, wouldn't you try to get away with some stuff? Not that, that is an excuse, but I think that thought slightly enters his head as well," wrote one fan.
"Here we go again… stupid is as stupid does. Another wasted life; another wasted season. Such a waste," commented another," wrote another.
As the news broke, fans were also sounding off on WWJ's Facebook page.
"OMG! Just when he had his best year ever last year and now this?" wrote Traci.
"Look it's all Mr. Clean and Sober, claimed he turned his life around and gave up on the liquor.... I liked the guy, but he has now crossed the line w/ multiple alcohol offenses. Do you think we can trade him to the Brewers as part of a package deal for Prince Fielder?" wrote another fan.

WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke, Thursday, with Pat Caputo of our sister station, 97.1 the Ticket.
"I think what the Tigers are going to have to make a decision about is, do you put him on the field knowing that he has this problem. Or, do you get him help, knowing that it's probably going to go into the season and hurt the start of your season," Caputo said.
"This is a $20 million-a-year ballplayer. He's one of the best players in the game. This is the guy that you built your franchise around, and that's gonna be a very tough decision for that organization," he said.
