Barricaded Gunman On Detroit's West Side
Police are involved in a standoff with someone in a home on Montrose, near Seven Mile Road and Greenfield.
Reporting from the scene, WWJ's Mike Campbell says all of the side streets in the area are blocked off and police are taking the situation very seriously. When Mike got out of his news vehicle to ask an officer at one of the blocked roads what was going on, the officer got out of his squad car with shotgun at the ready.
Although this hasn't been confirmed by police, the barricaded gunman was allegedly standing in the area of Seven Mile and Greenfield firing shots randomly. When police arrived, he continued shooting - not at the officers - but up in the air.
The man then went into a house, where he has barricaded himself inside. A Detroit Police Swat Team has arrived on the scene. They are going to get closer to try and talk the suspect out. No word on whether anyone is inside of the house with the man. Also, no word on any injuries.
Despite the tense situation, a number of residents have been walking down the street, taking their kids to school.
"I came outside, walked down the street, took the garbage out and next thing you know, I come down the street, I see SWAT and all you guys out here," one man told Mike.
