Stabbing Leads To Armed Standoff In West Bloomfield

WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) - A young man has been arrested following an armed standoff and stabbing in West Bloomfield.

The situation unfolded late Thursday morning in the area of Pontiac Trail and Green Lake.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Sweeting spoke with West Bloomfield Police Lt. Tim Diamond who said it began with a fight between two brothers -- 19 and 20 years old.

"One of them produced a knife and allegedly stabbed the other one, and the victim and his mother left the home, went to a neighbor's

house, and then we had information that the suspect we still inside the home with a shotgun," said Diamond. "We took precautions as a barricaded situation and after a short time he came out peacefully and surrendered."

Diamond said the 19-year-old victim, who officers found lying on a neighbor's lawn, was taken to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital with a single stab wound. "I don't know the severity. Although I can say when he left the scene he was conscious and alert and seemed to be doing OK," Diamond said.

Diamond said the suspect would be held for observation at Henry Ford Hospital prior to booking at the police department. He is  expected to be charged on Friday.

One neighbor, who did not want to give her name, told WWJ's Roberta Jasina that police were everywhere. "A couple of police officers came to my front door and said lock your front door, get away from the windows and go in the basement," she said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the initial altercation. No names have been released.
