Bank Robbers At Large Near Ann Arbor
PITTSFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - A bank robbery in Pittsfield Township, near Ann Arbor, led to a brief, precautionary lockdown Wednesday at a nearby elementary school.
The robbery occurred at the Comerica Bank branch on Carpenter Road near Packard, around 11:30 a.m. After the suspects fled on foot -- police placed Carpenter Elementary School on alert.
"They were instructed by the police to go into what we term a hard lockdown," said Liz Margolis with the Ann Arbor Public School District.
"Students were out of view of the windows, police were on the premises. And they then provided the all clear -- which about a half-hour later they did," she said.
Margolis said a field trip for some students was briefly delayed.
"It can be scary for kids, especially our elementary students, when this type of thing happens," Margolis said.
Pittsfield police, along with the FBI, continue to investigate the robbery. The suspects remained at large late Wednesday afternoon.
