Baker Collects Two Hits In Debut For New Team
Jeff Baker made his Detroit debut Wednesday night, playing left field against Yankees LHP CC Sabathia. Baker has a good track record against lefties (.304 lifetime), and he wasted no time in his transition to a new league. He doubled and scored Detroit's first run in the fourth, then got a two-run single off Sabathia in the sixth. He came out for a pinch hitter when New York changed pitchers, going to a right-hander, in the seventh.
--RF Brennan Boesch was dropped to seventh in the batting order Wednesday night with a left-hander starting for the Yankees. He still got two hits, one off a right-handed reliever, to drive in two runs. Boesch looks a lot more relaxed at the plate and shows a little less inclination to be a free swinger.
