Back From Vacation Six-Pack

By: Mike Stone

After a week with family, friends, and a Springsteen concert in Philly, I am back ready to roll. Here is a six pack filled with salutations, proclamations, and abominations.

1. I don't want to say I told you so about Michigan so I won't. Seriously I thought they would get beat bad, but not that bad. I was amazed that they were ranked above the Spartans and thought the eighth ranking was a joke. The bottom line is that Alabama is still great and Michigan is probably just good. Denard Robinson was pathetic, but where they lost the game was the line of scrimmage. Michigan could not come close to running the ball or stopping the run. That was the key to the game as far as I am concerned.

2. Speaking of lines of scrimmage, man did MSU's defensive line show who was boss Friday night or what? That was dominance. The Spartans were far from perfect, the receivers were not very good and they still made stupid penalties, but with basically a new quarterback I think it's fair to say they will play Wisconsin for the title again.

3. Amazing weekend by the Tigers, especially on the mound. You have to love what Scherzer and Verlander did to the White Sox. And yes I have to give Delmon Young his due. The Tiger I love to hate has been very good and can be a huge asset to their playoff chances.

4. As I tweeted earlier on Tuesday, how do I explain to my kids that Don Kelly will be starting at first base tonight and batting sixth in a September game during a pennant race? I understand he is 5-15 against Justin Masterson and Delmon Young is just 3-20, but Young is hot. Play him until he cools off.

5. I guess it's time for the annual awful Super Bowl prediction. This year it's going to be Green Bay against Baltimore. I think the Packers are a ticked off crew and thought they had a chance to repeat last season. The Ravens have seen the Lee Evans dropped pass in their dreams and are chomping at the bit to get back in that position.

6. About that concert I mentioned. Seeing Bruce Springsteen in Philadelphia is always special, especially since I was there with my best bud from college, plus my sister and niece. He walked on at 8:05 and ended at 11:50. Here is a little clip of Tenth Avenue Freeze Out, where I was so close I could shake his hand, but decided to just watch.
